About Sarah Kate Heilbrun

Sarah Kate Heilbrun primarily represents clients of the Law Office of Scott A. Mossman in matters related to U visas, I-601 hardship waivers, and appeals. She is an attorney licensed by the State Bar of California and authorized to represent clients before the following courts and agencies:

  • Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and Customs and Border Protection

  • Board of Immigration Appeals and all U.S. immigration courts

  • United States embassies and consulates

  • United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit

  • United States District Court for the Central District of California

  • Supreme Court of California, and all lower California courts

Sarah Kate is fluent in Spanish.

Sarah Kate is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). From 2008-2009 she served as a liaison between the San Francisco Immigration Court and the members of AILA. From 2006-2008, she served as the Program Director for AILA Northern California, where she organized the chapter's monthly continuing legal education meetings. She is on the Board of Directors of the U.C. Davis Immigration Law Clinic Alumni Council.

Sarah Kate received her law degree from the University of California, Davis, and was the Book Review editor for the U.C. Davis Law Review. She received her undergraduate degree in Latin American Studies from Williams College. During college, she also studied in Mexico and Guatemala.

In law school, Sarah Kate was active as a student lawyer and legal assistant in the Immigration Law Clinic and the King Hall Immigrant Detainee Project. During the summer after her second year of law school, she was accepted to the United States Department of Justice Summer Law Intern Program and served as a law clerk for the San Francisco Immigration Court. During her third year of law school, she worked at the United States Federal Public Defenders Office in Sacramento, California.
